Harrell Collects $1,500 Late Model Honors at Fayetteville Speedway

By Larry Long, FMS Press

Fayetteville, NC - May 4, 2008- The HGR Late Model action on this Saturday evening at Fayetteville Motor Speedway (FMS) would pay the winner $1,500 and Wayne Gray Jr. of Fayetteville entered the event on a two race win streak and was looking at earning a $500 bonus if he could pull off the victory. Raeford’s speedster Shaun Harrell the 2008 current point leader hooked up early and saw race leader D J Tyndall of Dunn spin out and he took the point and never looked back as he took the victory and the big bucks home for Carolina Concrete Finishers-Midway Mini-Storage. The win was Harrell’s third of the year and increased his points led in the Late Model title chase at FMS. Gray’s Creeks Chris Blackwell ran second in the Robert Turner entry and Spring Lake’s Mike Mason placed third for Mason Racing. Concord’s Jeff Morgan took a fourth place finish and another good showing at FMS. Spring Lake’s Scott Neighbors rounded out the top five finishers for Nichol’s Plumbing-Pro Engines Gray Jr. night ended as he was in a bang up and had to go behind the wall for the evening. D J Tyndall of Dunn was the pole-sitter with a lap of 19.010 and ran up front for a handful of laps and then spun out coming off two and never could get back into contention on this evening. Johnny Cain, Denton Little, Jimmy Ray and upstart Cody Shaw are looking a better evening on May 17 the next race program at FMS.

Defending Champion David Hart of Carthage finally shook off the streak of tough luck to earn his first win of the year in the Mid South Auto Recycling Open Wheel Mod showdown as he kept 2008 point leader Travis Yow in the runner-up spot at the finish line. Hank Edwards of Hope Mills finished third followed by Eric Menscer of Fayetteville fourth in the final tally. Gray Creek’s Timmy Blackwell put the Granger Racing ride in the fifth spot in the rundown. Fayetteville’s tough hard charger Carlos Jaramillo along with Andy Floyd, A J Belanger, Jordan Taylor and newcomer Charles Ryder will be looking a better night in the May 17 big showdown for the Open Wheel Mod guys as more money will be up for the winner on this Saturday night.

The Moffitt Machine Shop show once again saw the current points leader Glenn ”Fireball” Howard of Wade roar to the wave of the checkers for the sixth time this season in his Cape Fear Landscaping-Jerry’s Bumper Sales-ESPN 1230 Chevy entry Godwin’s upstart Thomas Stewart took the runner-up spot for the show followed by a hard charging Roy Johnson third. Freed Gibson finished fourth with speed merchant Richard Martinez taking a big fifth spot back to Ft. Bragg on this evening.

The Auto Plus U-Car battle saw defending champion Eddie Longhany Jr. notch his fifth win in his Auto Plus hot rod as he out ran a tough Mike Parker Jr. of Fayetteville in his Parker’s Service Center entry and it was a close finish at the stripe. 2008 point leader A J Huffman placed third with upstart Tyler Payne fourth and rounding out the top five finishers was Lighting Coburn.

The Young Guns show saw Zach Blackwell out run Bradley Hess for the top honors on this evening at FMS and Blackwell should take the points lead for this class after this win.

May 10 FMS will take a break for Mother’s Day weekend and wishing all the Mom’s a great Mother Day too. Racing returns Saturday May 17 with the Big Open Wheel Modified feature plus all regular classes in action and the first Enduro battle will take the green flag on this evening.

FMS and Carolina Clash Announce Bonus Money

FAYETTEVILLE, NC 3-20-08
The Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series and Fayetteville Motor Speedway announced today a new $20,000 bonus for the 2008 season. Any driver that can capture the Carolina Clash season long championship and the Crazy 8 championship at FMS will be awarded a $20,000 bonus.
"To say we are excited about this new bonus program would be a huge understatement," said Carolina Clash President Larry Lee. "We have been looking at some type of incentive program for quite a while and this one is a grand slam, not only for us but for our fans and race teams as well." “This is solidifies Fayetteville Motor Speedway’s commitment to our fan base and drivers. We are striving to have one of the best tracks in the South East”, Ed Longhany said. “Anytime we can partner with a race series, we are moving to the next level”.
The Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series season is a 23 race tour that competes all over NC, SC, VA and Georgia. The series has adapted a 'playoff' style format for the 2008 season that has created a huge buzz across the racing community. The Crazy 8 Series is a mini series held by Fayetteville Motor Speedway. The 14 races are special events that feature Lucas Oil and World of Outlaws Late Model events as well as four Carolina Clash events. All Super Late Model events at Fayetteville Motor Speedway count towards the Crazy 8 Championship. Teams are allowed to throw away their worst finish at FMS. The two organizations have scheduled around one another so that race teams will have the opportunity to compete for both titles.
The Carolina Clash championship is paying a record $12,500 to win in 2008 with the Crazy 8 champion receiving $7,500. Along with the bonus program one race team could walk away with $40,000!
"We work very closely with Fayetteville Motor Speedway and this is an obvious reason why," said Lee. "We are honored, thrilled, proud and ecstatic to be a part of this program with FMS and we look forward to a record setting 2008.”
“The Carolina Clash Series and Fayetteville Motor Speedway have a long history together,” said Fayetteville Motor Speedway Co-Promoter Larry Norris. “This bonus money program is just one of the many things we are working on at FMS in 2008 to make it the best season yet.”
The Crazy 8 season gets under way this Saturday night March 22nd with a $2,500 to win main event at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. The Carolina Clash season opener is March 29th at Gordon Park Speedway in Augusta, GA. This race will pay $4,000 to win with a $500 bounty on Ed Basey.
